It seems like we’ve been waiting forever.
We’ve faced crushing disappointment – again and again.
How do we hold on when our galus seems never ending, our suffering indefinite?
In the words of Jackie Bitton:
This past Tisha B'av, my family and I watched the Project Inspire video. The video featured Yelena Trufanov, an Israeli mother whose world collapsed on October 7th.
In a single brutal day, she lost everything. Her beloved home was reduced to rubble. Her husband was mercilessly killed. And her precious son, Sasha was violently taken hostage into Gaza. For endless, torturous days and nights, she lived in that most unbearable space — not knowing if her child was still alive.
My own children looked up at me, and said. "Mommy, how does she wake up each morning? How does she go on?" I had no words to answer them, no way to make sense of such profound suffering.
Finally, 498 days after he’d been captured, Sasha Trufanov was released from Gaza and returned to his mother's waiting arms.
I was invited to his Seudas Hoda, an incredible celebration. On that day, I so clearly saw how in one moment, Hashem had transformed a story of unimaginable galus into a breathtaking geula.
Even when darkness surrounds you, remember — in just one split second, Hashem can part the clouds, and bring out the sun.
